While these care instructions might sound excessive, you paid good money for your extensions, these instructions will not only extend the longevity of them but will give you an improved performance.
These instructions are key to the longevity of your extensions. Please use the professional products recommended by your certified stylist. Remember your natural hair benefits from all the healthy food, collagen, and vitamins you eat/take. Hair extensions aren't attached to a life source, like your natural hair, therefore they need some TLC to ensure their expanded lifespan. Most extension methods need to be adjusted every 6 to 8 weeks, unless otherwise specified by your certified stylist.
WORKING OUT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
-Brush your hair prior to working out or physical activity. Hair should be in a ponytail or braided.
-Wash hair afterwards. Sweat and dirt could cause tangles if left in the hair. I recommend you use a hair mask to nourish hair that may be dried out from the salt in sweat and dry shampoo to use between shampoos.
SWIMMING & WATER ACTIVITY
-Do not use chemical based sunscreens on or near the extensions as this can cause discoloration, normally a pink/peach color. A mineral base sunscreen is recommended.
-Before any water related activities, it's advisable to rinse your hair and use a leave-in conditioner. Tie the hair into a ponytail or braid. Spray the leave-in conditioner when out of the water. I recommend Malibu C Leave-in Conditioner Mist.
-Wash and rinse hair well after water related activities. Use a hair mask to rehydrate hair that may be dried out from chlorine and or salt.
-Brush hair thoroughly prior to washing to remove and prevent tangles during the wash.
-Do not wash your hair upside down. This causes unnecessary tension on the natural hair. The extensions are already added weight and wet extensions are heavier.
-I recommend a satin pillowcase and head wrap to keep your hair soft and static free while you sleep.
-Brush your hair and gather it into a loose braid. This keeps the extensions together and prevents unnecessary pulling due to movement in your sleep.
-Do not go to bed with wet hair!
-This will cause tangling and will matt the hair. If this occurs, contact me immediately.
-Do not attempt to color your own extensions or your own hair while wearing extensions. If color needs to be done, it should only be done by myself.
-Coloring your extensions yourself will avoid the warranty.
DRYING & STYLING
-Wring out the extra water from your hair.
-Gently towel dry (lightly pat/dab hair to remove excess moisture - do not vigorously towel dry). Air dry for a natural Beach wave, best results by adding a small amount of oil using fingers as a comb.
-Use my recommendations for leave-in conditioners, heat protectants, styling products, oils, or treatments to protect and ensure the longevity of your extensions. Styling products should be free of alcohol oils and ethanol if being used near the attachment as the use of them will cause extensions to slip.
-If you are blow drying, use a heat protectant. Begin your power drawing the roots, then working your way through the rest of the hair. When you're 80% dry, you may incorporate a styling brush recommended by myself.
-Styling tools should not be used anywhere near the point of attachment. Extensions can be styled with heat only using a thermal protectant. Curling irons, wands, flat irons, etc should be used at temperatures that work with your natural hair. I recommend 400° or under.
